Lectrium spent three months in Norway learning how people in the world's most developed electric vehicle market charge their cars and guess what we found out? Nearly every EV owner charges their car at home (or at work), nearly all of the time.
If you take a moment and think about it, drivers of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles developed a habit of constantly making detours to locations where their vehicleâs range could be extended by fueling its tank. We are talking about gas stations, of course.
Meanwhile, electric vehicle (EV) drivers do not need to make these detours. They no longer need to go out of their way to find a gas station and refuel, and spend an extra buck on overpriced coffee. Instead, they wake up each morning with a fully charged electric car, ready to hit the road.
Early adopters of EVs, typically those with homes or apartments equipped with garages or driveways, have embraced home charging as the norm and do not need to rely on public infrastructure. According to a recent survey by J.D. Power, an impressive 84% of American EV drivers charge their vehicles at home regularly.

While essential for driving EV adoption, nothing beats the satisfaction of home charging. The J.D. Power study confirms that home charging is a crucial aspect of owning an EV, and taking it to the next level with a Level 2 charger enhances the ownership experience significantly.
Does America need a robust public charging infrastructure? Yes.
Is public charging the key to driving EV adoption? Well, it is ONE of the keys.
Will every EV driver be more satisfied with their EV experience if they charge at home? Absolutely, Yes, Yes, YES!
What is a Level 2 charger, you ask? It is the key to optimizing your EV ownership experience. However, making the leap to a Level 2 charger may require some upgrades. Approximately 75% of EV owners need at least one upgrade to make their homes EV-ready. The most common upgrades include wiring, outlets, and electrical panels.
J.D. Powerâs new study measures EV ownersâ satisfaction in three charging segments, and concludes that âHome charging is an important aspect of owning an EV and taking that to the next level by utilizing a Level 2 charger is key to optimizing the ownership experienceâ says Brent Gruber, senior director of global automotive at J.D. Power.

However, upgrading to a Level 2 charger requires a trusted and certified installer.
Upgrading to a Level 2 charger may sound daunting, but it's a simple action that will change the way you experience your EV forever. Once the early majority realizes the convenience and cost-effectiveness of home charging, EV adoption will skyrocket. Say goodbye to gas stations and hello to the future of electric mobility. Embrace home charging, and take your EV experience to new heights.
