Is it better to charge my electric vehicle from home?

Is it better to charge my electric vehicle from home?

You just bought your first EV. Congratulations! You made a great choice for the environment and for your pockets. You drive it home and see that the battery has dropped a few percent points. The thought crosses your mind that to fill up your tank you have to charge this thing. What are your options?

What are the different ways of charging an EV?

Currently, there are three main options on how and where to charge your EV:

  1. Charging at home: Level 1 or Level 2 (check out the differences between these two in our blogpost)
  2. Public chargers: Level 2
  3. Public “Superchargers”: Level 3

There is no right or wrong way to charge your new electric vehicle, but there are ways to maximize your time and the money you save. You might think that stopping at an EV “gas station” makes sense because this is what you have always done with your gas car. What if you never had to make that trip again? What if you woke up every morning to a full ‘tank’? And what if charging your EV became something that was part of your normal life routine, rather than out of your way like it is now with an ICE car?

Is it worth installing an EV charger at home?

Level 2 home charging comes with numerous advantages over public charging:

  • Charging at home is more convenient: get home and plug your car in - it’s that simple!
  • Charging at home is cheaper: check out our EV savings calculator to see exactly how much you can save annually based on your gas and electricity prices
  • It is part of your daily routine
  • No waiting in line for a charger
  • Home chargers rarely break like you see at public stations all too often

How to get a level 2 charger installed at home?

To start charging from home with a Level 2 charger, you will want to have a certified electrician make your installation. That’s what we are here for! Lectrium takes care of these details for you and gets you set up with your best local installer at the best price. Once this is done, the savings just keep coming.
